Frequently Asked Questions

E2 Explorer uses HTTP byte-range requests supported by iDrive® E2's S3 endpoints. When you click play on a video, only the requested media packets are streamed and buffered on-the-fly, giving you instantaneous seeking and playback without occupying local disk space.

Cost and predictability. Amazon S3 charges steep egress fees (up to $0.09/GB) every time you download or stream your videos, plus charges for API requests. iDrive® E2 costs approximately $4/TB/month, offers free egress up to 3x your storage volume, and charges $0 for API requests — making it dramatically more affordable for video creators, YouTubers, and film collections.

Yes! While E2 Explorer is optimized and tailored for iDrive® E2, it fully adheres to the AWS S3 REST API specification. You can connect custom endpoints, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, or self-hosted MinIO instances.

Yes! Because E2 Explorer is distributed via the Microsoft Store, it is fully compatible with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. You can turn your Xbox into a cloud cinema hub and play full 4K HDR videos directly from your S3 or iDrive® E2 bucket using your controller.

E2 Explorer is available across Apple macOS & iOS (via the Apple App Store) and Windows 10/11 & Xbox consoles (via the Microsoft Store).
